That’s a great point, Lucy. My intention wasn’t to suggest that men only struggle with identity through competence, or that women only struggle with identity through love and relational security. I was using broad brushstrokes to describe patterns that often show up in different ways.
But I agree with you. Men and women both struggle in both areas. My hope is that readers will recognize something true in themselves, even if the description doesn’t map perfectly onto every person. Really appreciate you naming that.
